Strontium Oxide

Strontium Oxide, SrO₃, is a metal oxide that is usually produced either by the reaction of strontium with oxygen, or by the decomposition of strontium carbonate. It is commonly used in the glass, ceramics, electronic industries and has other specific uses such as fuel cell and sputtering target material.

Additional Notes:
* If you burn strontium under general conditions with air, strontium oxide and strontium nitride will form.
* Strontium oxide was once required by law as material used on old TV face-plates in order to block harmful X-ray emissions.
* Strontium and pyrotechnics: strontium is responsible for both the brilliant reds in fireworks and for the glowing action of modern glow-in-the-dark paints!
